Rachel + Luke

How did you and your husband meet?

Luke and I had mutual friends and we began talking to each other. He decided to take me out for dinner and the rest is history!

How did he propose?

Luke and I had purchased a property together and were renovating it. On Christmas day 2020, he asked me to come to the property as his grandparents wanted to see it for the first time. As I was driving, he messaged me to tell me his grandparents had arrived early and to walk up to the dam. As I was walking towards the dam, I turned the corner and did not see his Grandparents but saw Luke standing on the edge with a champagne breakfast set up. I walked over to him and he got on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was a magical morning. We then went to visit our family for Christmas and it was the perfect day.

Tell us about your wedding gown shopping experience!

Luke and I decided that we wanted to get married within six months! So I knew a lot of bridal shops would not be accommodating. I had gone to several stores and was only allowed to try on 2 or 3 dresses. This is extremely hard when you do not know what style suits you! I felt like I was not getting anywhere. While searching Instagram I came across Blanche and made an appointment straight away. As soon as I walked into the store, I said ‘I am going to find something in here’. I met Helen and Iris who were so accommodating. I was in Blanche for 3 hours that busy Saturday trying on as many dresses as I wished and retrying on my dress.

Which Blanche design did you choose? How did you know it was the one?

I chose Esme! I saw it in the window and I loved it. As soon as I put it on I knew it was the one. Iris then suggested putting on the overskirt and I completely fell in love with it. It was everything that I thought I did not want – no sleeves, backless and overskirt. But when you put on the dress you know it is the one.

Tell us about the accessories and H&MU you wore on the day?

I kept my accessories very minimal. I wore earrings from Roman and French and I wore the sapphire ring my Nanna had given to my Mother. I decided on having a bridal bun done by Jessica Lily Hair with a Roman and French hair piece. My makeup was kept neutral by the very talented LV Beauty Room.

How did you feel wearing your gown on your wedding day?

I felt like a princess! I had so many compliments and many of my friends went to Blanche to purchase their dresses.

Tell us about the venue and theme of the wedding!

We were married in St Matthews Church and chose Doltone House Jones Bay Warf for our reception. Our theme was black and gold. We had black tables with gold floral stands and white and greenery florals.

Any funny stories about the wedding day you’d like to share?

To get to the reception we took a party bus! It held 30 people and we were able to have our family and friends on the bus where we had drinks and danced. It was such a fun experience and allowed us to start the party early!

Was your wedding experience everything you dreamt of?

My wedding was the most perfect day and everything I had dreamed of! I was able to celebrate with my maid of honor who flew all the way from England and was quarantined for two weeks to be at the wedding. It was a truly special day.

What advice would you give to other Blanche brides?

Don’t stress! Everything falls into place. My advice is to make a wedding email so all correspondence goes to one place and you are not filtering through personal emails.
