Lydia + Daniel

How did you and your husband meet?

Daniel and I met one Sunday after my church gathering. He was visiting and I was upfront doing a talk for the kids - he saw me and decided then and there he wanted to speak to me before he left. Thankfully he did! It was definitely a movie moment, we met and instantly felt like we had known each other forever!

How did he propose?

One of our first dates was beside a river - over our dating stage, we kept going back to our favorite place. It's the place we first told each other we loved each other. So when Daniel suggested we have a date there I suspected nothing, and was so surprised when we went to our spot (on top of a hill) and found a little picnic set up! Honestly, it felt like a dream.

Tell us about your wedding gown shopping experience!

So going into the wedding I knew exactly what style I wanted for my dress. I first looked in a few stores near where I lived but none of them had what I had in my mind. I knew about Blanche Bridal from when we stopped a year earlier for my sister-in-law and I was already in love with their dresses. So after talking to my mum we decided she had to see them and went in!

Which Blanche design did you choose and how did you know it was the one?

I had a very particular neckline I wanted and when I mentioned it to Helen and Iris they said they can customize any dress. I first tried on the Luciana dress and as soon as I came out my mum and sister knew it was the one. When it was clear that I could change the neckline I was pretty much sold!

Tell us about the accessories and H&MU you wore on the day.

From the beginning I wanted to look like myself on my wedding day - so I kept it simple. I just had my hair down and curled - as I usually wear it and I wore some Swarovski earrings.

How did you feel wearing your gown on your wedding day?

Look not going to lie, the night before I freaked out! I was having a big middle eastern wedding and I kept thinking my dress wasn't enough - I mean - It was exactly what I wanted but I was scared it wasn't enough for everyone else. BUT I was so wrong! As soon as I put it on, I was in love all over again!!!! I loved walking around all day in it, walking through parks and down streets. It was so comfortable - it was a big dress but wasn't heavy on at all! It was honestly a dream Cinderella dress. I hated taking it off!

Tell us about the venue and theme of the wedding.

Super simple: formal and classic, black and white. With the smallest touch of champagne in the girls’ flowers. The venue (as extra as it was) was also simple. They had included flowers and table decorations in our package and with the theme being black it white - it all worked together perfectly!

Any funny stories about the wedding day you’d like to share?

Well, I broke my dress before walking down! I sat in the limo on the way to the chapel - bent over to move my train and heard a pop! Turns out the little hook and eye broke off from my quick and unusual movement. Had a little freakout, but thankfully the zipper was a stay-up one and didn't budge all day!

Was your wedding experience everything you dreamt of?

So much more!! The day was actually the best! Our wedding fell in this little pocket of no restrictions for a Covid wedding. We invited everyone who had played a part in our lives - and it was amazing. I know often brides talk about only inviting close friends, or keeping a wedding small - I was the total opposite. I wanted everyone to come - not to celebrate me - but just to come and have fun! It was a day I would do over and over and over again if I could!
